.Mac to MobileMe

Come July 2008, MobileMe will replace Apple’s familiar .Mac website, and with it all .Mac accounts will also be upgraded to reflect MobileMe’s new services. For the uninitiated, Mac users with access to www.mac.com have been enjoying .Mac’s storage solution for the past several years but all this will change with the advent of the brand new MobileMe. .Mac is a data synchronization program that lets Mac fans send and receive emails, photos ala Flickr, contacts and other data including document-sharing ala Google Documents. MobileMe is expected to rival Microsoft’s Live Mesh.

As an upgrade, MobileMe users will enjoy double the storage space compared to .Mac’s mere 10GB. Data synchronization will be naturally effortless and intuitive. For example, any email sent to your MobileMe account can be read via your iPhone. Images captured using your mobile phone will be instantly uploaded to MobileMe, allowing you to edit and share them.
